We are thrilled to announce that we have been recognised as Staffordshire’s best B&B! We received the Enjoy Staffordshire Gold award for the county’s best B&B and Guest House at the 2024 Enjoy Staffordshire awards.

Judges stated that “As a relatively new enterprise, Eagle House Eccleshall Bed and Breakfast can be congratulated on embracing all elements of the business in its quest for guest satisfaction.  The commitment being shown to sustainability is very positive demonstrating support for both the local community and local business providers.”

We are absolutely delighted to win, having worked really hard over the last 3 years to setting up our business. We won Silver in last year’s competition, and are overjoyed to receive the top award this year. This acknowledges our progression and success.

We also received bronze awards in the Self Catering Accommodation of the Year and Ethical, Responsible & Sustainable Tourism categories at this year’s awards.

As winners in the Bed and Breakfast category, Eagle House will now progress to represent Staffordshire at the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, to be held at The Rum Warehouse in Liverpool on 5 June 2024.

Glittering awards ceremony

Finalists from across Staffordshire gathered at the National Memorial Arboretum for the glittering black-tie event, on 14 March 2024, hosted by BBC Midlands Today’s Rebecca Wood.

Andy said; “It is a great honour to win these awards and we’d like to thank all the staff at Enjoy Staffordshire for running such a wonderful and inspiring event.”

Philip White, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with responsibility for tourism at Staffordshire County Council said; “this is our tenth awards now and once again it’s fantastic to be able to celebrate our amazing tourism sector. We’re attraction central, the biggest and best playground in the country and I’m incredibly proud of our tourism offer and everyone working in the sector.  Tourism continues to boom here in Staffordshire, this is due to the hard work and determination of our hospitality businesses to provide excellent and memorable visitor experiences.”

What are the Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism and Good Food Awards?

The Enjoy Staffordshire Awards are organised by the official Staffordshire Tourism board and are now in their 10th year.  They celebrate the crème-de-la-crème of Staffordshire tourism and hospitality.

Judging was carried out by independent, and professionally qualified judges across two rounds. 

In round one, judges reviewed all aspects of the business including;

  • The quality of the core product and customer experience.
  • How a business stands out from its competitors.
  • How company websites and social media encourage visitors to come to Staffordshire.
  • A businesses commitment to managing and improving their environmental, social and economic impacts.
  • Innovative marketing and PR.
  • Recent and ongoing development of the business.
  • Overall success of the business.

Once the top candidates were identified, round two judging for B&Bs, Guest Houses and Hotels involved a visit from an incognito mystery judge who got to enjoy all of the facilities on offer.  At the end of their stay, the judge announced themselves and conducted an interview with staff.

Future Plans

At Eagle House we don’t plan to rest on our laurels after winning. there are big plans to improve Eagle House even further and hope to make the building even more eco-friendly and also add to its charming and beautiful décor. We are already looking forward to entering next year’s Enjoy Staffordshire competitions and would encourage other local businesses to enter too! We find the competition process and feedback from the judges really motivating and helpful in improving our business and giving the best guest experience possible.
